The 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata is now even more powerful with a strategic engine upgrade that gives it 181 hp that’s 26 points more than its previous model that delivered 155 horsepower. The near 50/50 balance is neatly maintained and so is the extremely light weight profile in the current MX-5 which can be attributed to the weight cutting SkyActiv engineering innovations from Mazda. The styling of the MX-5 Miata Convertible is daringly almost retro with its soft top which was once a favorite with roadsters of the 60’s. The MX-5 Miata’s sporty looks, both inside and out has a history that speaks of racetrack legacy and its one peppy being on the road. Curious to know about the road manners of the 2019 Miata MX-5, we got in touch with a Phoenix Mazda dealer who’s known for an awesome line up of Miata’s which come as the Sport, Club and Grand Touring trims.
Sculpted Exterior Curves
The exterior of the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata is inspired by legacy sport car design with the right treatment applied to the sculpting to give it that touch of class and stay true to Mazda’s Kodo philosophy that’s a Japanese concept of Soul in motion. The hood of the MX-5 slopes sharply downwards for providing better road visibility to the drivers but adds motion to the appearance. The flowing design and wide stance with a wheelbase of 90.9-inches gives the MX-5 awesome road manners and balanced handling. Delving into the accents, you can observe how the LED daytime running lights are angled to add more athletic appearance while the eye shaped headlight enclosures demonstrate attitude. The materials are all light weight with the hood and trunk lid made from aluminum. The soft top convertible can be operated even at speeds up to 30 mph.
Sport Cockpit
The seating space of the MX-5 Miata is without doubt sport inspired and almost gives you the exact feel with its bucket seats with integrated headrests that can you slide backward of forward and recline for better posture and good grip while you maneuver tricky roads. The driver’s side seat has tilt adjustment as well for that perfect positioning. Padded armrests are added for comfort. A driver footrest is another useful feature in the MX-5 Miata. All the Miata trims come standard with a Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry and Start System, which lets you enter the vehicle just by the press of a switch on the door handle while you have your Key fob in your pocket. The door can be programmed to lock as you walk away from the Mazda Connect System.
Road Taming Mechanics
The 2019 MX-5 Miata is fitted with a 2.0L, 16-Valve VVT SkyActiv engine that delivers 181 hp and 151 lb-ft. of torque. It comes as both the 6-speed manual with short-throw shifter or the 6-speed sport automatic with paddle shifters. We learnt from the Mazda dealership Phoenix who we visited that you get to tame the streets with some amazing mechanics with the 4-wheel independent suspension and auto braking system with brake force distribution and Brake Assist. The road manners of the Mazda MX-5 Miata are even more enhanced with advanced safety features such as the Traffic Sign Recognition on the Grand Touring trim.
